I plan a great number of things. Not all of those plans end up coming to fruition, but that has never deterred me from the process.

You're conflating an unused plan with inaction.

How would you put... sometimes the "board" shifts. If your plans are only focused on the next move, you lose the chance to prepare for the move after that. Keeping an eye on what could happen two or three steps ahead has never served me poorly.
