[Hizumi, for his part, settles down to try to sleep again. Eyes should still be at the battle anyway, so why would he be on the lookout for guests?]

[Hopefully he didn't try too hard, because Eyes isn't going to go out to figure out which one of the rooms is his.]

[...Though he will drag himself out of bed, because it's only after sending the message that his weary brain puts it together. He's on the second floor; it doesn't take him long to make it to the first, a serious, if tired expression on his face.]

[When Hizumi comes out he'll find Eyes sitting on one of the couches with his hands folded together in his lap, the expression on his face pensive. While he hears Hizumi coming down, he doesn't look up at him.

Hizumi should be able to figure it out easily enough.]

[...Well shit. Hizumi stops in the doorway connecting to the common living space.]

When did you get here?

Do you mean when did I leave the battlefield, or when did I leave Gladsheim?

[Either way, the answer isn't a good one as he raises his gaze toward him.]

Midnight, and only just now. He's alone. [Though more importantly than that—]

He was there and saw it happen.

[There really is no good news about this, is there. He leans against the door frame, raising a hand to his head in his frustration.]

[... He knew Ayumu had been the one to find Hizumi, but to know he had witnessed that as well? Eyes runs a hand through his own hair, breathing once.]

Sit down.

[It's a reluctant movement, but he does eventually seat himself in one of the chairs. The motion is agitated; violent.]

[He stares at him silently, making note of every movement. Though he didn't expect Hizumi to try anything, he couldn't stop being cautious.]

Who can say? The Ice Queen fell, and her city crumbled with her which prompted the immediate evacuation of our forces. If the majority of the remaining giants retreated, then they may be on their way back now.

[What is there even for him to try?

As usual, his hands are tied.]

Yes, we are. I can't tell you what the conditions were afterward. [So for all he knew there could have been another wave of fighting—and Ayumu would have been at the front of it. Unlikely, but it was still a possible outcome.]

[That's all Eyes is getting. The situation is bad enough as is-- he's understandably reluctant to go into much more detail on the hows or whys of his death.]

[Fortunately for Hizumi, Eyes has no intention of pressing the issue; even with three deaths on him now, he was still reluctant to discuss any of the details.

For now he crosses his arms, looking away from him and toward the window.] He'll seek both of us whenever they do return.

[He knows, logically, that there's no point in taking it out on Eyes. But knowing now that Ayumu is dealing with not just one, but two deaths of people he knew, with no one to support him...

He never should have strayed from that damn camp, duty or not.]

That's when you stay with him. [He doesn't even try to be subtle about it. Ayumu may care about the wellbeing of them both, but ultimately they would benefit more from each other.]

Unless you would prefer to help him cope in that matter, but forgive me for saying it's not likely to be effective.

[Leaving him at all had never been his intention.]

I know. But whether you like it or not, there are limitations.

[And Ayumu wouldn't take kindly to them now more than ever.]

I'm sure you've found them by now. [But it wasn't a matter of whether Hizumi could deal with it—this was all about Ayumu.]

But if you have any other suggestions for how to treat him when he returns, or questions, now would be the time to say them.

[Dryly:] Didn't realize you did relations advice.

[Questions though... As much as he wants this night to simply be over already, he does pose one:]

--How'd he look? Before you were gone. Was he hurt?

I try not to make a habit of it. [Just as dryly.]

[But remembering how Ayumu had been when he found him...] He was still covered in your blood.

[Considering he'd died from blood loss, that's unsurprising. But if that was the only blood...]

[There's some slight relief, but only just. It doesn't really change the fact that Ayumu's stuck in a difficult situation by himself. He begins to rise from his chair.]

--It's better if you don't stay long, right? I'm goin' to bed.
